Be More Present

Welcome. I am so glad you are here.

Therapy is one of the few spaces in our busy lives in which we can slow ourselves down and notice what is happening in our minds, bodies, and worlds. Our own ability to be present with ourselves can drastically change our lives and our relationships, and experiencing the safe, nonjudgmental presence of a skilled, mental health therapist can help us on that journey. Ready to be more present in your life?

About the Practice

Dori Scallet, with shoulder-length hair, wearing a white eyelet dress, silver earrings, and necklace, standing outdoors and smiling for the photograph.

I’m Dori, the founder of Presence Psychotherapy. I am a licensed clinical social worker and a big believer that we are all doing the best we can with the resources we have available to us.

I offer virtual telehealth sessions to adults 18+ in New York State as well as in-person and virtual sessions in Missouri. My office is located in downtown Clayton, just a few minutes outside of St. Louis, and is fully ADA accessible.

I strive to create a space that is inclusive, accessible, and open to all. I do my own work to examine my privilege, to take accountability when I have caused harm, and to seek support when I realize that my own stuff is getting in the way of providing the best possible care to my clients.

Therapeutic Services

To work through issues like:

  • Feeling overwhelmed with tasks and obligations of daily life

  • Feeling stuck or unable to make changes, despite wanting to

  • Feeling disconnected or alone, even if you have people around

  • An inner voice that criticizes you for not being good enough, smart enough, perfect enough

  • Questions about your identity and how it’s changing over the course of your life

Relationships are hard. Counseling can support partners who:

  • Struggle to communicate with each other, particularly when in conflict

  • Get into the same fights again and again

  • Have difficulties with vulnerability, intimacy, and sex

  • Are in need of a safe space to work through a betrayal, violation of trust, or a traumatic event

  • Want to open up the relationship

We all experience trauma to various degrees throughout our lives. Sometimes though, our bodies get stuck in this trauma and have difficulty moving through it without assistance.

  • Intrusive, invasive thoughts, images, or nightmares about something that happened to you

  • Avoidance of people, places, or experiences for fear of your own reaction

  • Coping with stress by using drugs, alcohol, or sex

  • Feeling unable to connect with people you care about

  • Experiencing big, overwhelming reactions to stimuli that you can’t quite understand

For licensed professionals seeking support with:

  • Where to go next with your clients when you hit a plateau

  • Feeling imposter syndrome even though you know you know what you’re doing

  • Learning more about specific modalities or interventions

  • Exploring your own thoughts, feelings, and reactions to your clients

Let’s work together.
